The Nature Lab @Techfest

What better way to start your weekend than with a Saturday full of art and science.

The exciting partnership between the Barn and Techfest is an innovative programme of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics as part of this year’s Eureka Series sponsored by Chevron.

In the Wild Garden families joined me in the Nature Lab to observe, draw and create. Combining art and science really sparks the imagination!

It was a fantastic opportunity for young ones to get their thinking caps on and see what they could make using natural materials from the garden.

Many young biologists spent the afternoon with their clipboard hunting for things to draw and observe under the magnifying glass. Whilst others chose to design a picture or nature mask using leaves, flowers, grasses and sticks. Throughout the day many cool inventions were created.

Amelie Rogers age 10 says:

“It was fun collecting flowers for my picture, the rain didn’t bother me!”

“Cool art at Techfest!”

The Barn is one of my favorite places to visit and always full of friendly faces. I have been doing craft activities there for over a year now and I love getting to know the different families. Craft corner regulars Sophie, Margaret and Olivia left a lovely comment:

“Jenny has always got good ideas for arts and crafts.”

Thanks girls! It's always nice to meet new friends and I love seeing all the wonderful things people make.

There are lots of exciting things happening for Techfest 2017. Check out their Facebook page for upcoming events:
